Haven’t skied in 15 years. Do most adults or kids wear helmets or not?
We are planning on wearing helmets. But a statistician said that some kids don't feel/hear the whistling wind with a helmet and they therefore go faster and possibly have more injuries to their bodies.

90% of adults do and some resorts its mandatory for kids. So yes you should all get helmets. If you are not listening to music you can hear everything around you. I have been a skier for 37 years and only started wearing a Ski Helmet over the last 2 seasons. I did because I feel in 2 feet of powder and my head bounced off what was under the powder, ICE. Ski resorts add water to the snow making in the fall to make a base for the season.
Skiers and snowboarders fall that's just a fact. So what you should be thinking of is what ski helmet is best for each person,
Every helmet should fit properly meaning measure each persons head and ask whomever you buy from to reference the box for measurements. The helmet should not move back and forth and side to side. Most 2008 Ski Helmets have adjustments to tighten the helmet.
Do some testing at a ski shop then buy them online to save money.
Things to look for.
1-Fit
2-Venting. You want to be able to open and close the vents
3-linings. Buy Ski Helmets with removable a lining and ear flaps.
4-Chin strap. Make sure the strap has padding and is adjustable
5-Never buy a used Ski, Snowboard Helmet. Once a helmet hits the ground and the inner padding gets compressed it's useless.
6-Goggle holder on the back is a must
Most new Audio Ski Helmets are designed to let ambient noise in, so you can hear skiers behind you
I hope this helps and please be safe a teach you family to wear helmets during any activity not just skiing. Every ski season people get bad head injuries that end Ski Vacations. A Ski Helmet is worth every penny

kids ALL wear helmets and more and more adults are starting to wear them because they do have some good looking helmets nowadays.

Most everyone does. Still it is personal choice, but falling and hitting your head on the slopes can be like hitting concrete. New helmets are lightweight and also keep your head warm.

In the US it is a matter of personal choice for adults. But ask yourself if you know when someone will hit you from behind and drive you 25 feet through the air and give you a concussion. For kids, if they wear a helmet riding a bike, why not when skiing? For adults if you use a seat belt while driving and a life vest when boating, why not a helmet when skiing? There are many styles and they are much lighter than they were a few years ago. They also will keep your head warmer, but some have removable ear flaps that will keep you cool in the spring. For safety sake, wear a helmet.

Been there done that.
It is a matter of personal preference. And it depends how you ski. I think skiers nowadays do more daring stuff compared to 15 years ago. My main resort caters more to advanced skiers. It regularly hosts national extreme skiing competitions. So most skiers there wear helmets. I do.
One time my head hit a tall rock on steeps. Goggles shattered. Helmet dented. I had a blackeye for a week. But without helmet, I could have lost an eye and cracked my skull.
Helmets still pass through wind noises a good deal. Even kids will adjust to the noise reduction in no time. I will not trade safety for what that statistician said. Helmet’s benefits far outweigh the small adjustment to small noise reduction.

I disagree, Some ski schools require helmets. It is a saftey issue. I am in my mid age and have been wearing a helmet for 10 years. 2 years a go I had a concussion thank god I was wearing a helmet I might not be writing this.
All ages need helmets especially kids, trees, ground other skiers are obstacles that can cause head injuries. Be smart, Be safe. My Child wore a helmet and still does 19 years later. about 40% wear helmets and growing.

From what I’ve seen, almost all kids are wearing them and a lot of resorts require them. All resorts I’ve been to rent them as well, if you are just going once or twice and don’t want to buy them.
Helmets don’t reduce your feeling/hearing any more than a thick winter hat so I think that statistician is bunk.
I haven’t worn one but as I get into the terrain park more I’m buying one this season. Besides, I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen get slammed by some newbie wearing a helmet. If someone is gonna hit me wearing a helmet, I wanna be wearing one too. You have no control over other skiers and if you ski long enough some idiot will probably run into you at some point. Thats starting to be my outlook.
