I heard someone else say that u should have on a helmet but i was not positive if they ended up talking about nordic or alpine.

No, not for nordic. Not until, I suppose, you plan to be dodging rocks although telemarking.
Goggles while nordic skiing uphill will probably fog up, but they'd be okay for any downhill, and if you strategy to ski in the vicinity of trees, it could conserve an eye. They'd also come in handy if the climate turns significant and it starts blowing icy snow into your eyes.
