The Meaning of a Family Ski Resort

Skiing is considered one of the most popular vacations. If your family is all into ski resorts, you may want to purchase a family ski resort package. But purchasing family ski resort vacation is quite crucial. Family ski resorts are quite different from the ones which are for couples and singles. If you are a family person, and expect to have other families live there for a holiday, you may want to purchase a family ski resort built specially for this.

What features in a resort make it a family friendly resort?

It is just not a family ski resort; it should rather be a family friendly one. It looks towards the needs of all members of the family be it children, ladies or older people and is not just for professional skiers.

The family ski resort will provide all types of education on how to ski down the hill as the people who want to ski may be first timers. The family ski resort will also have certain provisions for handling the babies or babysitting while the parents have gone for skiing. There are also alot of activities that you can do as a family.

These will keep the non skiing children safe and occupied in the resort while the parents have gone. The family ski resort also has activities such as dancing and other social activities.

The area or location of the resort matters when deciding its family friendliness.

The area where the family ski resort is present makes it warm or non family friendly. Even if the family ski resort is in a famous location, it might not be what your family is looking for. Even though you would meet a celebrity while you have gone skiing but the calm which you would have preferred will not be there even after your paying a fortune for your stay.

Also along with the famous place where the family ski resort is supposed to be located, you may be interested in the town near it. It should be more of a quiet place with minimal crime and no violence. Also, the family ski resort should also have a town which is fun to live in and has many quality food joints and places where you can shop and hang out.

Even though it requires some effort, it is worth to find out whether it is a family ski resort or not.

Here you will find the insight on how to take a cheap Ski Vacation. Please visit Ski Vacation Resources and learn how you can save on your next Ski Vacation.

Tips for making your ski vacation a success

Skiing is among the most remarkable winter sports and people flocking to snowy mountains to enjoy skiing have become more common in the today's world. With the onrush of winter and the start of snowfall, snow lovers pack their bags and head for snow sure mountains in Europe, America or Asia to slide down the snow white slopes. Before heading for a skiing holiday, you should be fully set with all required material and know more or less about how you can make your ski vacation more fun filled and adventuresome. Here are some tips and tricks that will make your ski holiday a memorable one.

The foremost things that you'd need at a ski resort are good ski gears. Ski gears come in a wide range of prices and qualities. As a beginner or say a first time skier, it wouldn't be wise to spend a fortune on good ski gears. Go looking for a good ski gear at local marts. There are wide varieties of ski gears made for all sorts of people and you could be stuck in a dilemma when picking a suitable gear. Its better to look on the internet to search for suitable ski gears that meet both your requirements and your budget. A ski gear once bought may not be usable before another ski vacation which may be next year or even later. So, many people tend to sell their ski boots, ski poles and ski bindings after using once at a cheap price. You may luckily come across such people through the internet on auction sites like eBay. Or you can visit second hand shops where you may find usable ski gears at very low prices. Or, if you want to buy brand new ones, decide the amount that you want to spend on it before heading for the store.

The success of your ski vacation depends a great deal on the ski location you choose. There are many ski destinations across Europe and America and to a ski vacationist, the number can be overwhelming. But, the choice for a ski destination depends on how much you want to spend on your vacation. Some ski resorts charge so high that you might have to dole out your earnings of months to enjoy skiing there. And there are hidden charges as well in some cases ; so try to make things clear up front before you book a ski resort. Some others are relatively cheaper and affordable for taking your whole home on a ski vacation. Another contributing factor for the choice of a ski destination is your level of expertise. If you aren't much of a good skier and are a debutant, it is good to try out first on flat and more open ski surfaces. Small ski resorts are best for newbies as you can learn the athletics in easier terrain and enjoy at the same time.

You wouldn't want to lock up your offspring at home and go skiing with your spouse. Children make your holiday even more delightful and ski resorts these days have skiing provision for children as well. But with kids, you have to be extra careful while planning the trip. With your kids included, your ski vacation will sure become pricier than normal. So, if you are on a low budget, look out for ski resorts that are affordable for a ski vacation for your whole family. Children aren't much adaptive to cold and therefore may not be able to stand the temperature at the ski resort for a elongated period. Therefore, book a hotel that provides heating and preferably baby-sitting services too. Or another alternative is to take the grandparents along so that they can look after the children. But if you have grown up children In their late teens, skiing with the whole family unit can be a sheer fun. Take your grown up sons and daughters for a skiing vacation and let them brag about it to their friends. If you are planning for a longer stay, make sure there are recreational centers in the area or places where youngsters can hang out.

Skiers prefer the winter season, mainly from December to April for going on a ski vacation. At some ski resorts, you can ski down the glaciers even during the warm months. The destination for your ski holiday also depends on the time of the year you want to go skiing. Like in Australia and New Zealand, the best time for skiing is from June to September. Thus, there's no paucity of ski resorts no matter what time of the year you want to go skiing. Make a list of all the things you'll have to carry before heading out for a ski holiday.

A Quick Guide To Alpine Skiing

Enjoying a great day on the slopes requires that you have some good knowledge about the skiing process. Not everyone is skilled in sliding down a frozen mountain on waxed slices of fiberglass. For you, we developed this quick guide to skiing that we hope will help you get on the right track. Use the following links to skip down to the section that most interests you. 1. Taking lessons
            2. Choosing the right clothing
            3. The best equipment for you
            4. Where to skiv 5. For the extreme skier Taking lessons If it's your first time on skis, there are several ways you can learn the proper style and technique. You can teach yourself, learn from a friend or take lessons from a professional ski instructor. Teaching yourself might not be the recommended option. There are more risks of injury and you can learn some bad habits. This could result in missing out on some (or most) of the fun, getting discouraged and not enjoying the sport. If you decide to take lessons from a friend, you will definitely save yourself some money but you might not get all the important information and tips you would get from a seasoned pro. What if your friend taught himself and learned some bad habits? The most practical option is to take lessons from a professional ski instructor. This will help you stay safe and learn important techniques. You can also choose to have the lessons tailored to your skiing needs. Luckily, all five ski resorts around Canmore offer lessons. What to wear When it comes to staying warm on top of a snow covered mountain, you will need to find the appropriate clothing from head to toe. The good news is you don't have to worry about the boots; they come with the skis. However, they don't offer much insulation and extra socks might be a good idea. You will appreciate having two pairs of socks. The outside pair should preferably be wool. For your legs, layers are recommended. A good pair of flexible pants (i.e. not jeans) covered with water tight ski pants will usually be adequate. Depending on the forecast, long johns might also be necessary. You might be thankful of spending a little extra for some ski pants with reinforced knees - this is usually the first place to wear-out with frequent falls. Your upper body should also be covered in layers; a minimum of three. The bottom layer can be a comfortable long-sleeve T-shirt. However, the next layer should be water resistant but breathable. This will keep water away from you body, keep you dry and help keep you warm (there's nothing worse than cold water to steal all your body warmth). The outside layer should break the wind - most ski jackets do the trick. They also have several zippered pockets to stash all things necessary (lip-balm is indispensable). Let's not forget your noggin'. A good percentage of body heat is lost through the head. This makes it very important to cover it up. Start with a good neck warmer or scarf for you neck and chin (if you opt for a balaclava ski mask, this might not be necessary). You will also need eyewear. While sunglasses usually do the trick, winds can pick up unexpectedly on the mountain tops so goggles are recommended. If you buy goggles, make sure they offer UV protection; the sun glare off the snow can be hard on your eyes. Finally, cover up your head with a warm toque. Note: the amount and warmth of the clothing you decide to wear all depends on the forecast and the season. Obviously, spring skiing asks for cooler ski wear. Use your best judgement and always remember - too warm is better than too cold! The right equipment for you When it comes to choosing the best equipment, a beginner can more than manage with some inexpensive rental skis and poles. All of the ski resorts near Canmore offer rentals. Plus, you might find out that skiing is not for you so you might not want to spend too much money getting all geared up before hitting the slopes a few times. Once you get the hang of it, enjoy it and start skiing more frequently, it's time to look at the option of purchasing your own equipment. Luckily, several online outlet stores (like Backcountry.com) let you browse various items before deciding on what brand, type and style of skis, poles, bindings and boots you want to invest in. Some online stores even offer used equipment if you want your own gear with a less expensive approach. Where to ski With five major ski resorts within an hour's drive, your stay in Canmore gives you access to a wide variety of skiing options. Choose Nakiska, just 35 minutes away, for its smaller, uncrowded atmosphere. Visit Fortress Mountain for its two mountains and sweet snow conditions. You can try Mount Norquay if you like night skiing. Maybe you prefer Sunshine Village, which offers fast lifts, the most snow and great powder. There's also the ski resort in Lake Louise, the largest ski area in North America. No matter which resort you choose, there is enough skiing around Canmore to keep you coming back season after season. For the extreme skier If you're an experienced skier, you know that powder snow is the ultimate experience. However, you also are aware of the fact that it's rare and hard to find. Even though most ski mountains get frequent snowfall, the dryness and depth of the snow is marginal. Add the early morning traffic to all this and the deep, smooth, untracked powder is soon groomed and packed, making that "perfect powdered run" hard to come by. The good news is that there are alternatives to being a conventional "powder chaser". There is ski touring, heli ski and Cat Skiing. Ski touring is arduous and time consuming. For those who aren't familiar with it, you basically trek through the backcountry on remote alpine peaks, far from crowded resorts. You can then enjoy the powder as well as the peaceful nature of the uncrowded slopes. Those who are willing to spend a bit of money to get the ultimate skiing experience can choose Heli Skiing. This type of skiing has been around for several years. It consists of hitching a ride aboard a helicopter to the top of the mountain where there is powder as far as the eyes can see. This however will run you around 00 a day and is only available to proficient skiers. Also available are multiple day guided tours on huge, isolated slopes upon mountain tops. This type of adventure does not come without its downsides. There are days when the helicopter cannot fly due to inclement weather conditions and there is always the inherent risk of avalanches. However, all reputable heli-operators provide qualified guides who know the safest routes down the slopes. When weather is unforgiving, guides will restrict skiing to the wooded areas; "skiing the trees". Tree skiing is usually associated with another type of mechanized skiing - cat skiing. This type of extreme skiing is fairly new. Basically, a snowcat (a large mechanized snow caterpillar) takes you up the mountain. This takes more time than by helicopter but some prefer its more cozy, relaxed and tranquil environment. Snowcats boast comfortable cabins than can accommodate up to 12 people, a guide and a driver. While you scale the mountain in this comfy coach, you can nibble on some snacks, warm up and even sit out the next run. Yes, even if snowcat skiing or snowcats are slower, most people get their money's worth and wear themselves out. Cat skiing is more affordable than its big brother, heli-skiing. It will run you approximately 0 a day, including transportation, lodging, meals and guiding. Plus, snowcats still run in inclement weather. This cuts down on "down days" you would get with a helicopter. This way, especially if your ski vacation is limited for time, you get the most amount of skiing possible. Of course, like its big brother, cat skiing has its limitations. The snowcats can't go everywhere a helicopter can so cat skiing is more limited geographically. However, cat-operators become very familiar with their "limited geography" and this limits unpredicted events.

For more resources about heli ski or about cat skiing or even about snowcat skiing, please review these links.

Not far from here, (10 minutes from Vangen), you find Norway's major ski resorts called Bavallen, with 40 kilometers of groomed ski trails, cable car and 12 lifts with a total capacity for 12 000 persons per hour.
Voss is also a mecca for extreme sports. Mountain village Beitostølen is a tourist center located in Øystre Slindre in Oppland county. The place has a location 900 meters above sea level and is not far from Jotunheimen. This is something that makes the snow come very early and ski season last until April. In Beitostøen you find a huge ski resort, hotels and widespread cottages. The place is very family friendly and there are short distances between the slopes, ski trails and habitations. The skiing area starts in the middle of Beitostølen city center and stretches up to 1100 meter above the sea.

Geilo is a ski resort located  approximately 4 hours driving from Oslo. The Bergen train line also passes through, so you can also choose to travel by train from both Oslo and Bergen. Geilo is located 794 meters above sea level and has approximately 3000 inhabitants. There are many hotels and cabins, so the accommodation options are many. During winter many tourists come here to use the huge ski domain which consists of 40 ski slopes and 220 kilometres of groomed cross country trails. The ski resort consists of all types of slopes, from the simple to the more difficult ones. Geilo is also one of the largest ski resorts in Norway and you will definitely find something that suits your skills.

Norefjell is the most dominant mountain range in southern Norway and Oslo's nearest mountain. It has become a very popular ski resort, and the winter-Olympics in 1952 took place here. Since then Norefjell has been one of the largest and most modern ski resorts in Northern Europe. The mountain range is located between Eggedal in West and Krødsherad and Hallingdal in East.
